Progetto “Dalla parte dei Ghiacciai” – Servizio Glaciologico Lombardo (with English version)
Il focus della tutela dell’ambiente, di scottante attualità e di sempre più impattante rilevanza, si è recentemente affiancato alle tradizionali aree di intervento del Rotary, tra le quali, come sappiamo, troviamo anche l’acqua (in modo più specifico “fornire acqua e strutture igienico-sanitarie”), argomento – per la sua preoccupante progressiva mancanza – sempre più “bollente”: è proprio nell’ottica di realizzare service che si occupino, in primo luogo e principalmente, di questi due macro-obiettivi che è stato concepito “DALLA PARTE DEI GHIACCIAI”, un progetto che vede impegnati tutti i Rotary Club del Gruppo Sforzesco (Distretto 2050), ovvero – in rigoroso ordine alfabetico – RC Abbiategrasso, RC Cairoli, RC Lomellina, RC Mede Vigevano, RC Morimondo Abbazia, RC Vigevano Mortara.
Il progetto, articolato e di ampio respiro, parte dall’idea di collaborare attivamente con il Servizio Glaciologico Lombardo, organizzazione di volontariato scientifica no-profit, sviluppatasi dal comitato scientifico del CAI e costituitasi in via autonoma nel 1992; i suoi scopi sono la ricerca e il monitoraggio in ambito alpino, nonché la promozione, nella società civile e in particolare nelle scuole, della conoscenza e della cultura dell’ambiente glaciale, periglaciale e montano.
Una prima fase, finalizzata all’obiettivo di “fare squadra” e di alzare il livello di sensibilizzazione, nel week end centrale di settembre vedrà, sabato 17, i soci dei predetti RC partecipare in loco, ovvero a Santa Caterina Valfurva (SO), a un convegno dal titolo estremamente significativo e coinvolgente: “IL CAMBIAMENTO CLIMATICO E IL CICLO DELL’ACQUA IN PIANURA PADANA”; qualificati relatori, quali Riccardo Scotti (Responsabile Scientifico del SGL), Mario Fossati (Presidente dell’Associazione Irrigazione Est Sesia) e Gianluca Chiarucci (Agronomo), moderati da Pierangelo Metrangolo (Docente del Politecnico di Milano) spiegheranno le interconnessioni che vi sono tra la “crisi” dei ghiacciai, effetto del cambiamento climatico – purtroppo da noi provocato – che stiamo vivendo, e l’agricoltura, e quindi l’economia e, in senso più ampio, la vita nella pianura che si estende per tutto il Nord Italia; domenica 18 ci saranno le prove “sul campo”: si raggiungerà, a piedi o in e-bike o tramite jeep, il Rifugio dei Forni, e poi il Ghiacciaio dei Forni, dove, con l’ausilio di tecnici del SGL si potrà partecipare, anche attivamente, ai rilievi (fotografie, misurazioni ecc.) che effettuano quotidianamente i tecnici per controllare la situazione dei ghiacciai monitorati.
Il service vero e proprio si articola in due filoni, differenti tra loro ma indubbiamente interconnessi e complementari.
Il primo è un intervento volto a donare a SGL un bene strumentale di rilevante valore materiale e intrinseco e, ciò che maggiormente conta, estrinseco, in considerazione dei nobili obiettivi che ci si pone: un drone DJI Phantom 4 RTK, che verrà utilizzato dal Servizio Glaciologico per rilievi cinematici in tempo reale, indispensabili per la conoscenza dello status quo e il calcolo delle prospettive di mutamento, con l’ovvio obiettivo di individuare le migliori soluzioni per un’inversione di tendenza rispetto all’attuale riduzione progressiva delle estensioni di queste preziosissime risorse di acqua dolce.
Il service di gruppo prevede però anche un intervento più immateriale, e con una finalità senza dubbio anch’essa elevata, perché volta a far conoscere a tutti, e in particolare alle scuole, lo “stato dell’arte”, in tanto rapida quanto preoccupante modificazione, di un problema che condizionerà in modo estremamente rilevante il nostro futuro, anche a breve termine.
È infatti prevista la realizzazione di una mostra itinerante, formata da alcuni video e da oltre 80 tra le fotografie più significative selezionate tra le innumerevoli che compongono l’archivio del Servizio Glaciologico Lombardo: verranno a tal fine acquistati e utilizzati totem espositivi e schermi ad alta risoluzione. La mostra sarà inaugurata il 23 settembre nell’ambito del Festival delle Trasformazioni a Vigevano, ove sarà collocata presso Palazzo Merula.
Allo scopo di enfatizzare al massimo l’aspetto relativo all’educazione delle nuove generazioni su questi temi, la mostra verrà poi allestita, inizialmente, nelle scuole del territorio (Lomellina. Abbiatense) e, successivamente, potrà interessare anche (ma non solo) altre scuole del Distretto e della Lombardia.

The focus on environmental protection, of burning topicality and increasingly impactful importance, has recently joined the traditional areas of Rotary intervention, among which, as we know, we also find water (more specifically “supplying water and sanitation facilities”), a topic – due to its worrying progressive lack – increasingly” hot ” in these days: it is precisely with the objective of creating services that deal, first and foremost, with these two macro-objectives that the Rotary Clubs of the Sforzesco Group (District 2050) – in strict alphabetical order, RC Abbiategrasso, RC Cairoli, RC Lomellina, RC Mede Vigevano, RC Morimondo Abbazia, and RC Vigevano Mortara – conceived the project “ON THE SIDE OF THE GLACIERS”.
The project, articulated and wide-ranging, starts from the idea of actively collaborating with the Lombard Glaciological Service, a non-profit scientific voluntary organization, developed by the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) and established independently in 1992; its aims are research and monitoring the Alpine glaciers, as well as the promotion, in civil society and in particular in schools, of knowledge and culture of the glacial, periglacial, and mountain environment.
A first phase, aimed at the goal of “teaming up” and raising the level of awareness on the topic, will see, on Saturday 17 September, the members of the aforementioned RCs participate on site, in Santa Caterina Valfurva (SO), at a conference with an extremely significant and engaging title: “CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE WATER CYCLE IN THE PADANA PLAIN”; qualified speakers, such as Riccardo Scotti (Scientific Responsible of the SGL), Mario Fossati (President of the East Sesia Irrigation Association), and Gianluca Chiarucci (Agronomist), moderated by Pierangelo Metrangolo (Professor of the Politecnico di Milano) will explain the interconnections between the “Crisis” of the glaciers, the effect of climate change – unfortunately caused by us – that we are experiencing, and agriculture, and therefore the economy and, in a broader sense, life in the plain that extends throughout Northern Italy; Sunday 18 September there will be an organized excursion where Rotarians will reach, on foot or by e-bike or by jeep, the Rifugio dei Forni, and then the Forni Glacier. There, with the help of the SGL technicians, Rotarians will be actively engaged in the surveys (photographs, measurements, etc.) that the technicians carry out daily to check the situation of the monitored glaciers.
The actual service is divided into two strands, different from each other but undoubtedly interconnected and complementary.
The first is an intervention aimed at donating to SGL an instrumental asset of significant material and intrinsic value and, what matters most, extrinsic, in consideration of the noble objectives that it sets itself: a DJI Phantom 4 RTK drone, which will be used by the SGL for kinematic surveys of the glaciers in real time, indispensable for the knowledge of the status quo and the calculation of the prospects for change, with the obvious objective of identifying the best solutions for a reversal of the trend compared to the current progressive reduction of the extensions of these very precious fresh water resources.
The group service, however, also provides for a more immaterial intervention, and with an undoubtedly high purpose, because it aims to make known to everyone, and in particular to schools, the “state of the art”, and possible future modifications of a problem that will affect our future in an extremely relevant way, even in the short term.
In fact, a traveling exhibition is planned, consisting of some videos and over 80 of the most significant photographs selected from the countless that make up the archive of the Lombard Glaciological Service: for this purpose, display totems and high-definition screens will be purchased and used. The exhibition will be inaugurated on the 23rd September as part of the Transformation Festival in Vigevano, where the exhibition will be located at Palazzo Merula.
In order to emphasize as much as possible the aspects relating to the education of the new generations on these issues, the exhibition will then be traveling around the schools of the Rotary District 2050, first, and then all-around Lombardy.
