The District remembers our Vittorio Sozzi
Funeral commendation PDG Vittorio Sozzi
Monday 26 August 2013
It is on occasions like this that life seems to slow down, suspended, almost taking a breath, as if to remind us that once the long climb is over, followed by a brief moment of stalemate, the descent will begin. As in the ascent of a high mountain, on occasions like this we reach the top and up here we can stop to reflect, take in the views, rest from our efforts and prepare for the descent. There are many of us today on the top of this mountain, we hold hands and admire and celebrate what I want to imagine as a wonderful sunrise. The dawn of the friend in Rotary and in Vittorio Sozzi's life. The Past Governor honored me with his friendship, his advice and I do not deny also some criticisms which however were diluted in our common spirit of service for Rotary and for society. Many remember him for his great commitment, in his career, in his family, in society. All of you will recognize in his memory the hundreds of actions that Man was able to perform during his existence shared with us. Actions animated by a delicate determination: that which distinguishes the work of the most refined, courteous and competent souls.
Vittorio was many things including Governor of our beloved Rotary District 2050 and he knew how to lead it with effective passion. But for me Vittorio was above all the Friend who knew, thanks to his intuitions, ahead of the times. Yet another proof of this is the definition of the motto of his 2002/2003 Rotary year as "Enjoy, enrich, engage", a motto that anticipated or even inspired that of the current International President Tim Burton with his "Engage Rotary, Change Lives".
Today I say thank you to him for the last time in front of you, but I will continue to thank him for the journey we took together to reach with you the top of this mountain of his, of this distinguished life of his, of this wonderful dawn that he was able to give us.
May the earth be light on you.
