The Morimondo Abbazia Rotary Club in Helsinki for the “Silakkasoutu”

From October 1 to 4, 2026, a large delegation from the Morimondo Abbey Rotary Club traveled to Helsinki, Finland, to participate in the annual "Silakkasoutu" service, literally "Save the Herrings", an initiative that combines sport, friendship and commitment to the environment.
The event consists of a non-competitive regatta with rowing boats, whose objective is to raise funds for the protection of the Baltic Sea and its delicate ecosystem.
The friends of the Finlandia Hall Rotary Club, with which the club of Morimondo is twinned, welcomed the Italian members with the usual cordiality and an authentic demonstration of hospitality. A bond consolidated over time, which finds in these occasions precious opportunities to strengthen Rotarian friendship and share common values and objectives.
Participation in the regatta gave the delegation moments of great enthusiasm and satisfaction. Rowing in joy, the crew crossed the picturesque canals of Helsinki, continuing to the open sea and finally reaching the port.
Along the way, at pre-established points, participants tried their hand at measuring water transparency, an important activity to raise awareness about pollution and the health of Baltic waters. The accuracy of the surveys carried out by our crew has been officially recognised, earning the Morimondo boat an appreciated recognition.
During your stay, there was no shortage of moments dedicated to discovering the Finnish capital. The friends of Finlandia Hall have accompanied Italian guests to visit the main tourist attractions, offering them the opportunity to learn about the history, culture and architectural beauties of the city.
To complete the experience, the tasting of the specialties of Finnish cuisine, another opportunity for conviviality and cultural exchange.
The trip to Helsinki thus ended with a decidedly positive result: an experience that has been able to combine solidarity, attention to the environment and international friendship, once again confirming the spirit of Rotary and the value of collaboration between clubs from different countries, united by the common desire to contribute to the good of the community and the protection of our planet.
