Out of doors at the Institute of the Blind in Milan – "Dialogue in the Dark", multi-sensory experience – 28/02/2026

“»Dialogue in the Dark" at the Institute of the Blind in Milan represented a unique sensory experience, capable of profoundly changing the way in which the world is perceived. The path took place completely in the dark, led by blind people, thus transforming the lack of light into an opportunity for discovery.

As soon as they entered, the total absence of visual references generated an initial sense of bewilderment. However, little by little, the other senses intensified: sounds became sharper, smells more recognizable and touch became the main orientation tool. Every step required attention and trust, both in our own senses and in the guide who accompanied us.

Along the way we crossed different environments — a street, a park, a bar — recreated exclusively through sounds, surfaces and scents. Without sight, one has been forced to mentally reconstruct spaces, imagining what surrounds them. This sensory immersion has produced a strong emotional involvement, inviting us to reflect on how much sight conditions our daily lives.

The experience ended with a moment of dialogue with the guides, who recounted their lives and their relationship with the world. At that moment it is understood that darkness is not only absence, but also a different form of perception. "Dialogue in the Dark" thus becomes not only a sensory path, but also a powerful exercise in empathy and awareness.
