Rotary, friendship and internationality: the value of a twinning

On 24 and 25 October, a delegation from our Club, led by President Emiliano Costantini, went to Germany to participate in the celebrations of the thirtieth anniversary of the Rotary Club Mühldorf-Waldkraiburg, with which we have been twinned for some years. A special occasion, lived in the name of friendship, sharing and the values that unite Rotarians from all over the world.
The emotions and meaning of this experience are told in the most authentic way by the words that our president wanted to address to all members, sharing reflections and sensations developed during these two intense days.
«It is practically impossible to convey to you the emotions we have felt in these two days. Mariangela, Nicoletta, Giorgio, Pietro, Franco and I were welcomed and pampered by our twins as if we were at home."
The warmth of the welcome received represented much more than a simple gesture of hospitality: it was the concrete testimony of a bond built over time, capable of overcoming geographical distances and cultural differences.
As President Costantini underlines, breathing the internationality of Rotary means rediscovering and strengthening the sense of belonging to a special community, united by shared ideals and the desire to put oneself at the service of others.
The meeting with the German members also confirmed how important it is to cultivate relationships that go beyond the usual convivial occasions. Mutual knowledge, discussion and sharing of experiences make Rotarian friendship deeper and more authentic, fueling that spirit of service that invites us to act "above all personal interests".
Our president's reflection on the value of twinning was also particularly significant. In the past, the proposal had raised some doubts in him, linked to a vision of the service predominantly oriented to the territory. A local commitment that remains fundamental and that our Club carries out daily, but which finds a precious completion in the international opening.
In fact, dealing with different realities allows you to broaden your horizons, create new relationships and acquire perspectives that can translate into ideas and stimuli to create increasingly effective local services.
Among the best moments of the visit, Costantini also remembers meeting Giorgio after some time and the precious advice he received from him, the result of a profound knowledge of Rotary, before speaking in front of an unusual audience.
The thirtieth anniversary of the Rotary Club Mühldorf-Waldkraiburg was therefore much more than a celebration: it became an opportunity to renew bonds, share values and rediscover the most authentic meaning of being a Rotarian.
An experience that reminds us how international friendship is not only a value to be cherished, but also a concrete resource to grow together and better serve our communities. Because Rotary, when it overcomes borders and connects people and ideas, becomes an even stronger tool for doing good.
