The journalist Magdi Cristiano Allam was a guest and speaker of the Rotary Club Morimondo Abbazia on Wednesday 4 February 2015, in a public session (extended to all clubs of the Lomellina group) at the former Convento dell'Annunciata in Abbiategrasso.

The evening, which was also attended by the Governor of District 2050 Fabio Zanetti, saw the participation of a large audience who demonstrated their liking and appreciation by underlining the various steps with numerous heartfelt applause.

The well-known journalist entertained those present on the topic “Islam and immigration: defending our civilization”; the evening also saw the active participation of other journalists from the local and national press (including Giancarlo Mazzuca, director of "Il Giorno", as moderator) who pressed Magdi Allam with questions and arguments that were highly topical and of undoubted interest to public opinion.

Magdi Allam was born in Cairo (Egypt) on April 22, 1952. Journalist. Political. «Since I was little, when they asked me "what do you want to be when you grow up?", I answered: a journalist or a politician. My passions."

In 1956 his mother Safeya was a babysitter for the Caccia family, who paid for the child to go to college with the Comboni nuns in Egypt.
At the age of twenty he came to study in our country and graduated in Sociology at La Sapienza University of Rome. In 1987 he also officially became an Italian citizen.  (Lucia Annunziata) [La Stampa 25/3/2008].

For many years at Repubblica, he was deputy director ad personam of the Corriere della Sera. Already a secular Muslim, convinced that faith must be a private matter between God and the conscience of the believer, he then converted to Catholicism with great fanfare, taking the name Christian (22 March 2008).  (Lorenzo Salvia) [Corriere della Sera 23/3/2008].
In March 2013 Allam made it known that he was leaving the Church, «it is a choice made also in the face of the reality of two Popes, but what more than any other factor has distanced me from the Church is the legitimation ofIslam  as the true religion of Allah as the true God, of Muhammad as the true prophet, of the Koran as a sacred text, of mosques as a place of worship" but "I will continue to believe in the Jesus I have always loved".  (il Fatto, 25/3/2013).

He is a careful scholar of Islamic fundamentalist movements. Among his works:  Bin Laden in Italy  (2002);  Diary from Islam (2002);  Jihad in Italy  (2002); Saddam. Secret story of a dictator  (2003);  Kamikaze  made  in Europe (2004);  I love Italy. But Italians love it  (2006);  Long live Israel  (2007); Thank you Jesus. My conversion from Islam to Catholicism  (2008);  Free Christian Europe  (2009), all published by Mondadori, e  Thanks to life. The other Italy that never stops dreaming.   (2011, Piemme).
He has always defined himself as a "secular" Arab.  (Ibid.).

A convinced supporter of the hard line against Islamic terrorism, he revealed that many imams in mosques, hiding behind a language incomprehensible to us, were inciting terrorism. He goes around under guard, many times threatened. He supported the American intervention in Iraq.

On 30 November 2008, Magdi Allam announced the foundation of the party "Protagonists for Christian Europe", a party for the protection and affirmation in politics of the Christian roots of Europe.

In 2009 he was elected to the European Parliament with 39,637 personal preferences. (Gian Guido Vecchi) [Cds 30/11/2008]. Also in 2009, Allam conceived the "Io Amo l'Italia" movement: as an electoral symbol, a drawing by Giorgio Forattini with a tricolor Italian flag on which a yellow cross was imprinted.
